Gold Coast University Hospital is offering an outstanding 2027 Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery Fellowship for a motivated post-fellowship surgeon looking to develop the skills, confidence and experience required for independent consultant practice.
As one of Queensland’s busiest tertiary centres, GCUH offers a high-quality, hands-on fellowship with exposure to the full spectrum of contemporary bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery, including complex revisional surgery, management of post-bariatric complications and advanced minimally invasive techniques.

Extensive experience in public primary and revisional bariatric surgery

Primary Bariatric Cases: Approximately 10-20 per year

Revisional Bariatric Cases: Approximately 20-30 per year

Significant exposure to benign Upper GI surgery (public)

Benign UGI/HPB cases: Approximately 20-30 per year

Over 50% of bariatric and Upper GI procedures performed robotically, with access to a dual-console da Vinci system

Access to endoscopy lists

Dedicated Bariatric Nurse Navigator supporting patient care and operating lists

Close mentorship from experienced bariatric and Upper GI surgeons

Opportunities to develop operative independence, sound clinical judgement and multidisciplinary obesity management skills

Combined public and private practice exposure, providing valuable insight into consultant practice
Fellowship Structure
-
Queensland Health fellowship appointment (60 hours per fortnight plus after-hours roster)
-
One day per week required in Acute Surgical Unit emergency theatre

1–2 days per week private assisting across major Gold Coast private hospitals

Participation in the General Surgery on-call roster
