IH Professional Development Course 2024

Are you a dietitian, nurse, general practitioner or psychologist new to or with less than 5 years’ experience in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery? If so, then this 2-day training course will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the physiological, nutritional, and psychosocial aspects of metabolic and bariatric surgery.

It will also demonstrate the strengths of the integrated health team who work collaboratively with patients to prepare and support them to achieve their post-surgery goals.

At the end of the two-day course, you should be able to:

1. Explain the recommended steps in the pre-operative work up for metabolic and bariatric surgery
2. Identify the recommended clinical / hospital / practice resources required to safely care for people with higher weight
3. Identify potential complications and implications for physical, nutritional, psychological, and reproductive health following metabolic and bariatric surgery
4. Discuss the key challenges/barriers that people with higher weight encounter in the health system and outline possible solutions to improve care access
5. Explain strategies for effective therapeutic engagement with members of the integrated health team when supporting people with higher weight
